President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. honors the Philippine hero Lapulapu as he joins the nation in commemorating the 503rd anniversary of the Victory at Mactan in a ceremony at the Liberty Shrine in Lapu-Lapu City on April 27, 2024.

During the celebration known as ‘Lapulapu Day’ or ‘Adlaw ni Lapulapu’, the President leads the flag ceremony and offers a wreath to the statue of Lapulapu. He also witnesses a reenactment of the Battle of Mactan during the program proper and the performance of ‘Arnis de Abanico’, a subset of Filipino martial arts that focuses on the use of ‘abanico’ or fan as a weapon.

Pursuant to Republic Act (RA) No. 11040, the 27th of April every year is declared as a special non-working holiday in the City of Lapu-Lapu and a special working public holiday throughout the country to commemorate the victory of Lapulapu and his men over the Spaniards in the historic Battle of Mactan on 27 April 1521.
