Ukraine Peace Summit closes with majority signing declaration but way forward uncertain ANC
The vast majority of the 90 countries attending a Swiss summit on peace for Ukraine supported its final declaration, Swiss President Viola Amherd said on Sunday (June 14). Speaking at the closing plenary session at the summit in the Swiss town of Buergenstock, Amherd outlined the content of the final communique, calling for the safe use of nuclear power, safeguarded shipping navigation routes and the return of unlawfully displaced children and unlawfully detained civilians. She acknowledged the need for Russia to be included in future negotiations and said the United Nations charter must be adhered to.The communique was backed by most of the more than 90 countries that attended the summit but some did not put their name to it, including Mexico, Saudi Arabia and India.
