Swiss Ring team performs in USA Gymnastics Week in Minneapolis

During USA Gymnastics Week in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Turnverein Ziefen’s Swiss swinging rings gymnasts and Malmöflickorna’s Swedish rhythmic gymnasts performed at the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden. This event was part of the lead-up to the Olympic Trials and the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The Swiss swinging rings were featured outside of Europe for the first time. The Swiss athletes performed their routine with precision.

/”It’s quite amazing,/” said Jonas Schmidli, a 27-year-old gymnast from Switzerland. /”For us in Switzerland, it’s quite a kind of a one-time chance to perform here, in front of such a skyline and such a beautiful morning and we were really excited./”

The Swiss team trained for the last half a year and were excited to come to Minneapolis to showcase the swinging rings, a Swiss specialty, to the greater public, including many people in a new country.

/”It’s kind of like flying, when you are up there performing your elements,/” said Schmidli.

The event also featured performances by the Malmöflickorna, a team of Swedish rhythmic gymnasts.

/”We are so excited,/” said Petronella Stahl, a 30-year-old gymnast from Sweden. /”It’s a huge event, and it’s a bit nervous, but we are feeling very honored to be invited here and in this environment and by these big gymnasts. So we are just excited and very happy./”

/”Today is absolutely incredible,/” said Li Li Leung, president and CEO of USA Gymnastics. /”It’s really, really significant. We’ve seen the Swiss ring perform here, as well as the group from Sweden too. They were amazing as well. And this is actually the first time the Swiss rings have been outside of Europe, so it’s monumental for them as well./”

As USA Gymnastics Week continues, athletes and spectators alike anticipate the upcoming Olympic Trials, where the best gymnasts will compete for a chance to represent their countries in the 2024 Paris Olympics. – Report from Reuters
