A group of Russian Northern Fleet ships arrived in Venezuela’s port city of La Guaira, Russian state news agency RIA reported on Tuesday (July 2). The ships made a stop in La Guaira during their trip in the Caribbean to show their ‘friendship, solidarity and support’ for the Venezuelan people, said Venezuelan Vice Admiral Edward Centeno Mass.
In June, a nuclear-powered submarine and Russian Navy frigate arrived in Havana during a stopover that both the United States and Cuba said did not represent a threat but added that the visit was a display of force from Moscow amid tensions due to the war in Ukraine.
The Russian embassy in Venezuela said the frigate /”Admiral of the Soviet Union Fleet Gorshkov/” and the tanker /”Akademik Pashin/” had arrived in Venezuela to demonstrate the strong bonds between the two countries. The frigate’s guard of honor will participate in Venezuela’s Independence Day military parade and other activities on July 5th.
