Palaro first-timer, bamboo stick thrower smashes javelin record
In just his first Palarong Pambansa appearance, Western Visayas javelin thrower Charles Daniel Turla smashed a longstanding boys elementary record with a 60.26-meter throw, easily eclipsing the eight-year-old mark of 57.50 set by Calabarzon’s Jerick Mendoza. Not far removed from a past training with makeshift bamboo javelins, the 12-year-old Turla is trying to ride a hot streak with a possible second medal in shot put.
