Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida visited Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant on Sunday (August 20). Speaking to representatives of the plant operated by Tokyo Electric Power Company (Tepco), Kishida emphasised the long-term nature of the plant’s decommissioning process. There is no date yet when the treated radioactive water from the tsunami-stricken plant would be released. Japan says it will remove most radioactive elements from the water except for tritium, a hydrogen isotope that must be diluted because it is difficult to filter out.
