Special flower arrangements from China, Ireland, Italy, and Iran adorned the entrance to Forest Lawn’s Great Mausoleum, where the music icon was laid to rest in 2005.
Photos of the late musician aligned the pathway with many personalized messages reading “We miss you” and “We Love You.”
Event organizer Mother Diva praised the turnout, saying for her, it was important for the event to reflect the transcending effect Jackson had on the world, transforming the lives of many.
Over the years, many fans have marked June 25 as a yearly event on their calendars. Theresa Buyco has been flying in from Alberta, Canada, during the last few years to pay tribute to her favorite musician.
“I changed my life through Michael Jackson. I got my citizenship in Canada because of him. When I started to idolize him and study him, he changed me,” she said.
The event marked a significant milestone, as the Mayor of Glendale, California, Elen Asatryan, officially recognized June 25th as the official Michael Jackson remembrance day in the city.
Despite the heat, fans trickled in and waited in line outside the mausoleum, with most sharing memories. Some even dressed like the King of Pop in memory of him.
“He’s truly going to be the one and only king of pop, and nobody can touch that,” said Lionel Taplin. -Report from Reuters
