Indigenous communities across Brazil gathered in a sacred territory in the Sao Paulo province over the weekend to celebrate their cultural heritage and athleticism at the annual Indigenous Games.

The event provided a valuable opportunity for the younger indigenous generations to take pride in wearing their traditional garments and to practice their traditional songs and dances, said Chief Awa Tenondegua.

The games featured a variety of sporting events such as tug of war, log racing, soccer, and uca uca fighting, a Brazilian Indigenous wrestling sport. -Report from Reuters
